Ev Charging Station Questions
Your EV Charging Station Questions Answered
If you’ve seen an CONTENT EV charging station while running errands and wondered if it’s time to switch to an Electric Vehicle (EV), you’re not alone. The EVs available at our Chevrolet dealership in Toms River are helping our customers say goodbye to gas. Below you can find the answers to the most commonly asked questions from customers beginning their research.
What are the types of EV chargers?
There are three ways to keep your Chevrolet Bolt EUV charged.
- Level 1 charging uses a wall connector cable that conveniently fits into the existing outlets in your garage. This is the slowest way to charge your car, gaining about five miles of distance per hour of charge.
- Level 2 charging provides a faster charge through a 240V outlet. This typically requires professional installation, but the tradeoff — up to 25 miles for each hour of charge time — is worth it.
- DC fast charging is available at rest stops and highway routes for the quickest charging option when you’re on a road trip and can’t wait for Level 1 or 2. You can charge your Chevrolet Bolt EV up to 80% in under 45 minutes.
What are the pros and cons of different chargers?
Level 1 charging is available anywhere there’s electricity, but it’s slow. Level 3 chargers are rarer, and while they’re quicker, their repeated use will shorten EV battery life. A Level 2 charger and some advance planning is a suitable happy medium.
What does it cost to use public EV charging stations?
The rates are hard to calculate, as they vary by vendor and location. As a rule, you’ll pay an activation fee as well as a fee per kilowatt-hour of electricity, with some charging networks offering memberships and other cost-saving perks.
How do I find the nearest public EV charging station?
Use the MyChevrolet app with Energy Assist to find a charging station near you and compare rates before buying.
